Ashland Area Music Teachers Association is proud to host the Memorial Scholarship Classical Piano Competition each year, in partnership with Kentucky Christian University.
Young pianists showcased their talented performances for adjudicator Dr. Henning Vauth of Marshall University.
Ali Ward (student of Lori Hughes) placed 1st in the Junior Advanced division, performing Invention #8 by JS Bach and Polonaise in g minor by Chopin. Laura Beth Stanfield (student of Lori Hughes) won the Senior Advanced division, performing Sonata K 545 by WA Mozart and Clowns by Turina. Alivia Haas placed 2nd and Caroline Watkins was awarded Honorable Mention. First Place Collegiate/Young Artist was awarded to Yu-Chien Huang, student of Desiree Scarambone (University of the Cumberlands), for her performance of Sonatine by Ravel and Etude in F, No. 8 by Chopin. Second place was awarded to Allison Lambdin (University of the Cumberlands) and Jessica Lance (EKU) took 3rd place.
Performances featured music by Rachmaninoff, Poulenc, Gottschalk, Haydn, and Debussy. Ashland Area Music teachers included Lori Hughes (Ashland), Mary Ellen McNeill (Morehead), Sylvia Johnson (Greenup), Melissa Green (Argillite) Dr. Henning Vauth (Huntington), Ruth Reid Thompkins (Russell) Karen Hopkins (Ashland) and Renee’ Miller (Ashland).

Youth aged 7-18 from Eastern Kentucky are invited to participate in the Junior and Senior Divisions. The Collegiate/Young Artist Division is open to enrolled college students or high school graduates who are studying piano, up to age 26.
