Want to see some pictures from our 2016 KMTA conference? You can find them over in our Members-Only section!
Our 2016 KMTA state conference was truly a successful event! For the first time, we had three different locations hosting various events – from competitions, to Allstate and conference sessions.
We received a record number of entries – 91 students between MTNA and Bluegrass competitions, and we will be sending 11 students to compete in the regional divisions in January in South Carolina.
Our composer’s concert was well attended and we heard wonderful performances and new, exciting pieces. Collegiate chapters from around Kentucky presented posters on their research, and one chapter will represent Kentucky in the National conference with a poster.
Harry Pickens delivered a memorable concert on Sunday night, sharing stories of his incredible life experiences and taking requests from the audience.
On Monday, the level of research and scholarship was unsurpassed, throughout the sessions we experienced extended techniques for voice and piano, learned useful practice tips, discovered a score system for sight-reading software, heard about pedagogical treasures from Paris, talked about performance anxiety tips, experienced how Blues can be helpful with our students, and learned what technology can offer in the world of teaching.
Allstate Keyboard ensemble offered a touching performance to Joy Carden. It was the last time All State was part of the conference – next year All State will be an independent event – more information forthcoming soon.
I would like to thank every single person involved in the success of this 2016 KMTA State Conference!
Bernardo Scarambone
